The very first RCYC Land Yacht cruise is coming. We will be spending the weekend at Memaloose State Park by The Dalles the weekend of April 14th thru the 16th. All are welcome to attend. Make your reservations before they are gone.

This park has views of the Columbia River and the Gorge. Roxana and I are planning on biking the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail, Twin Tunnels Segment: Hood River to Mosier. This segment travels the old highway through tunnels on the side of the cliffs and is closed to all motorized traffic (ebikes are allowed). Come join us.

In addition, Gorge hiking trails are available. So get your RV, trailer, or tent ready and join us.

Let us know if you are coming and hope to see you there.

Pam and Evie and I hope to be there for the ride. It is a great trail. There is ebike rental at 2+ places in Hood River if you want the assist. But I am not certain that they start renting that early in the season.

Cool. If you get a chance post a link for the rental place. If no link, how about a name.

              From Rob Neild

EBIKE OPTIONS. Unsure if they will have them so early in season. All at the Hood River end.

Please send me your reservation location if you booked. I will put them on a map and send it out to those who are going.

As of this morning we have 14 members signed up, 1 possible member staying in a hotel during the nights, and 1 member coming out for the bike ride. Should be a fun weekend.

If you haven’t sent me your reservation location, please do and I will add it to the map.

Only 7 RV spots left in the campground. If you haven’t sent me your location, please due once you have your reservation made. Attached is what I currently have been sent. If you want to keep it a mystery, that is OK also. Looking forward to a fun weekend.

It’s getting close and the weather is looking decent. I would like to see the interest for a potluck on Saturday evening. If we have a few canopies we could ensure a dry space. After all, we are in Oregon in April. Forecast is currently for temps in the 50’s during the day and some showers, not too windy. If you have any last minute questions, you can post them here.

                        Directions to the park:

Eastbound I-84, get off at exit 76 (Rowena), and turn around to go westbound on I-84 and get off at exit 73 and follow the instructions below.

Westbound I-84 get off on exit 73 (Memaloose State Park/Rest Area), go through the rest stop and the park is just west of the rest stop.

CJ — I’ll check out in our boat garage for a canopy. Will let you know if it’s in good shape and coming along with us, for a sharing space. My next thing is to source an “SUV tent”, and I’ve almost made a choice.

I will be bringing a canopy also.

Any ideas on what day you will do the bike ride? Maybe we should wait and look at the weather. If you go a bit past Mosier there are some wineries. There is a taco truck for lunch in Mosier if that is helpful. Plenty of options back in HR for afterwards if refreshment is needed.

                              Rob,

We plan to do the ride Saturday. Friday has better weather but that is the day most will be arriving. We have never done this ride so I’m up for suggestions. I am open as to what time we leave the campground. Suggestions? Also, which end is best to start from?

Looks like there is an event scheduled for Saturday starting at the Hood River side. Therefore we will start at the Mosier side. I’m thinking of starting at 10:30Am.

We have a canopy we can bring for the potluck keeping in mind that if the wind is up the canopy will not be. We have had very sturdy canopies shredded in wind before, it is not a pretty situation!

Susan and I had to cancel our reservation, life got in the way.

Ray and I can bring two canopies, both 10′ size. And, yeah, like Pam and Carl pointed out, a wind-shredded canopy is not a pretty sight. That’s why we only have two canopies, not three. 🙂 And we sourced a tent that will work on our car.

We’re planning to do an out and back to RCYC on Saturday, to be there for the meeting about going north. Done that, often, but want to learn some new tricks. We usually cruise after the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival, as we’re up part way anyway. But last year we went north before Festival. Much warmer! Will do that again this year.

See y’all on Friday. And yes, we’d be up for a potluck, so will plan for that, in case it takes place.

Car and tent camping, in an RV spot, to plug the car in.

Anne & Ray, Bright Star, the little yellow cabin cruiser, but for this, the red car

Just fyi….the Going North seminar has been moved to April 29th.

Whoops. Two kind members informed me that the Going North gathering is not happening this coming weekend. We missed the memo, and glad to know it’s on the 29th, from 3 to 5pm. Thanks, Gary and Pam.

Potluck will be Saturday at 6pm. Social hour at 5pm. I’m thinking bring your own meat/main dish and a salad or desert to share. Bike ride will start at the Mosier side, at 10:30Am.

Weather has improved. Wind doesn’t look bad. But goes without saying about canopies not being up in the wind.

No worries Mark and Ken. Hopefully, you can join us next time.
