Gary Brown has kindly offered to teach a clinic on splicing Dyneema. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn to build some useful gear for your boat. Soft shackles are a great replacement for hard shackles due to their simplicity, strength and versatility. Can’t tell you how many Dyneema Bramel eye splices and soft shackles are now found on boats from cruisers to go fast(er) racers.

So, come on down to the club house on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 10 to Noon so you can learn to make simple and strong eye splices in 12-strand Dyneema (Amsteel) and a couple versions of soft shackles.
These soft shackles are comparable with those that sell for $25-30 at local marine stores.

Bring a razor knife and/or some very sharp scissors that you don’t mind making a bit more dull. Line will be provided.

        Clinic will cover:

Bramel Eye Splice (both ends of line are available)
Bramel Eye Splice (only one end of line is available)
Easy Soft Shackle that’s pretty good
Super-strong soft shackle but harder to do (Gary has used these for years with no failures)

As usual, please let me know if you are planning to attend. This will allow Gary to insure enough Dyneema is on hand for all to make the above mentioned boat jewelry.
