Roxana and I will be spending some time this lazy day’s in Ilwaco. Can anyone recommend some good areas to set crab pots? I am thinking just outside Baker channel on the east side. Also, what have you found to be the best bait?

        Any info is appreciated.

Chicken legs, thighs, wings, offal in a bait bags work best; whatever is cheap and about to be thrown away. Salmon carcass are better, but attract seals as well.
I’ve filled crab pots in a matter of hours on the east side of Sand Island near where Baker Bay opens to the Columbia.
Make sure to add weights to your pots if you want to find them in the same place after a tide cycle or just short soak them and hang out for a couple hours in the dinghy and fish.

That’s a good idea about the weights. We weren’t able to go out this particular trip due to weather but will be making a separate trip for crabbing soon. Thanks for the info.
