2023 Season Announcement 1/27/23

RCYC Racers, please find the following message from SYSCO about the upcoming 2023 season.

SYSCO Skippers and Crews ,

So this is a crazy name for a get-together, no? We thought of using Fleet-A-Palooza, but it seemed to have too many syllables. What is it? Well for you old salts who have attended the SYSCO Fleet Night in the past, it’s essentially that meeting but with some twists that will, we believe, make it more attractive to attend and participate. First, the particulars:

Who: Skippers and crews from any boat that races or wants to race in a SYSCO event.
Date: February 5, 2023
Time: 3:30ish – 6:30ish (after Sailing on Sundays)
Where: Portland Yacht Club
Why: To kick off the sailing season early and meet other sailors in your’s and other’s fleets
Agenda:
Fleets get together and get reacquainted,
choose and confirm Fleet Captain for each fleet,
review Race Committee assignments for SYSCO races,
pay attention to Guest Speaker (Craig Garrison),
eat,
drink.
Additional notes:
Gate code for PYC non-members 3100 during event
Bar and kitchen are open for business – have a late lunch or early dinner sandwich and a beverage.
Second, let’s be clear, all SYSCO skippers and their crews are invited. You DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF PYC to attend. And, while it’s after Sailing on Sundays, it’s a SYSCO focused event in preparation for the upcoming sailing season. Oh, and a big Thank You to PYC for providing the venue.

Third, we will be going over the fleet assignments for race committee, and if you don’t have a fleet captain, it will be a good time to find a “volunteer.” The new Race Captain, Michelle Bennett will be there to answer any questions about upcoming races.

Please, please pass this along to fellow sailors and attend. Bring your crew. Make it a fun Sunday afternoon even if you don’t race in the Sailing on Sundays races. The food at the club is great and we’ll have a lot of space to mingle and tell war stories. Ping me with questions: commodore@syscosailing.org.
